Billy's Marathon
31 August 2011
As many of you know, earlier in the year Billy committed himself to running a Marathon in aid of this year’s charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Having completed a ‘warm-up’ half marathon in 1 hour 51 minutes the bar was set for the Edinburgh Marathon on May 22nd 2011. Secretly hoping for a time under 5 hours he successfully reached the half way mark at 1 hour 51 minutes. Spurred on, the Scottish weather took a turn for the worse and at 17 miles he was “jogging horizontally”! Battling the elements Billy ‘hit the wall’ at 23 miles however, sheer grit and determination paid off and following a small bit of walking and some lucozade, Billy jogged the last three miles and completed in a fantastic 4 hours, 8 minutes and 5 seconds!
Billy would like to thank everyone, farriers and clients, that supported him both financially and emotionally. A terrific £3475.00 was raised for Breakthrough. Apparently he actually ‘enjoyed’ doing it (although not enough to do another full marathon!), but hasn’t ruled out doing further half marathons – if anyone would like to keep him company please do get in touch!
