Husband and wife team Billy and Lucy Crothers set up "Handmade Shoes" farriery supplies in Buckinghamshire in 1998.
Billy shoes horses on a daily basis, training apprentices within a multi-farrier practice. Billy's passion for shoeing and shoemaking is as strong today as it has ever been – he has now trained in excess of 15 apprentices and successfully competed in many farriery competitions throughout the world including winning the prestigious World Championships no less than five times. Lucy Crothers (née
Diamond) takes care of the day-to-day business at Handmade Shoes and is the driving-force of the company. Lucy enjoys eventing and has competed at international level, successfully completing Badminton Horse Trials on Carousel VI in 2006. Lucy is as passionate about Handmade Shoes as Billy is about shoeing.
Billy and Lucy put Handmade Shoes continued growth and success down to a very hard-working and dedicated team as well as the loyalty of their clients. We live in a world of call centres where clients are merely statistics, but the company’s ethos is to cater for clients' individual needs and to provide exceptional customer and after-sale service. Technical information is always at hand with a knowledgeable sales staff as well as the backup of 2 qualified, practising, farriers within the team; Billy himself and Timmy Fuggle (Head of Customer Services). Clients have come to expect and appreciate the high standards of customer service that Handmade Shoes provides.
Education and supporting the farriery industry is close to Billy and Lucy's hearts. Each year Handmade Shoes hosts a spring and autumn clinic, as well as organising one of the largest shoemaking competitions in the world. In addition Handmade Shoes sponsors and supports many events throughout the farriery industry worldwide.
